The BCTF passed this resolution at their 2021 AGM, held March 20-23. Resolution 203 is aimed at ensuring school staff, students and families have safer measures when doing in-person learning, especially considering the rising Covid-19 cases and increased variants in our province. In particular, it is asking the LRB to allow teachers who are in areas of high spread to teach remotely, until safer in-school measures for BC's public schools are put in place.
Please pass on Resolution 203 to your DPAC, BCCPAC, school trustees and/or BC School Trustees Association, with a request to ask them to support the BCTF's submission to the LRB. If you give some reasons of your own that you would want this to happen, please add them as the personal message makes it more powerful!

Dear (BCCPAC/School Trustee/ BC School Trustees Association/DPAC chair, DPAC members):
The BCTF passed Resolution 203 at their 2021 AGM, held March 20-23. This resolution is aimed at ensuring school staff, students and families have safer measures when doing in-person learning, especially considering the rising COVID-19 cases and increased variants in our province. In particular, it is asking the LRB to allow teachers who are in areas of high spread to teach remotely, until safer in-school measures for BC's public schools are put in place.
Here is the exact wording:
BCTF 2021 AGM Resolution 203
That the BCTF bring a submission to the LRB, due to rising cases and increased variants in BC, that in areas with higher than 5% positivity rates, both secondary and elementary teachers be permitted to move to Stage 5 of the K-12 Restart Plan, which is teach remotely, until these emergency safety protocols for public schools in the province are put into place:
As a parent who would like safer measures in schools for my child, I am asking you to publicly support the BCTF in their submission to the LRB. We need the LRB to rule in favour of the teachers, as they are fighting to get safer in-person measures for our children and for themselves.
This pandemic is entering a new stage, with the more transmissible variants-of-concern growing rapidly, and the province’s COVID-19 case numbers rising. It is more imperative than ever that the province put better safety measures in schools so that our children can continue to attend school but in a safer environment, one that would be protective against the new variants.
Other provinces and countries around the world have discovered that the old measures do not work against these variants. We do not believe that BC is any different. That simply does not match with what everywhere else in the world is saying about variants and safety protocols.
(any more reasons you wish to state for why you think this is important for them to support, can go here. Personal stories have power, so please feel free to share your reasons! Delete this section if you do not wish to add anything.)
We are urging you to publicly support the BCTF’s Resolution 203, for the safety of our children, who are not able to be vaccinated for many months yet, and the staff that take care of them, for whom vaccines will not reach protection until a few weeks after they receive it.
Thank you for considering my request. We are hoping that organizations will act to be on the right side of history in this pandemic.
